what's the most fiersome looking dog to repel people?
i’m not talking about which dog is stronger or more aggressive but it’s more the look of the face and body, etc…

"Fearsome" is relative to the individual onlooker so there isn’t a set breed that will have people running away.
While some have said the APBT is scary, whenever I see one I ask the owner if I can say hello because I’ve loved every APBT or other bully breed I’ve met. APBTs are not human aggressive, so if the person has any canine knowledge, they’ll know not to be afraid of the dog.
Any dog, regardless of breed, exhibiting aggressive body language is the most "fearsome" in my opinion.

try a boxer, they are sweet and loyal, and will protect you and your family.

I would say a pitbull. They look very agressive and to me their faces just scream intimidating

What does it matter? a dog is a pet/companion. Not a contestant in a mean looking dog contest.

People are most often afraid of Dobermans and Pit Bulls.

In my opinion the Cane Corso is the scariest looking dog. Pitbulls are too cute.

Hard to say as everyone is different. And anyone who loves dogs won’t be repelled by any dog you have walking along side you.
Why are you so concerned with using your dog as a repellent? It’s not good to get dogs for that reason. It just furthers the stereotypes that surround "fierce" looking dogs… and without question leads to more of them getting killed, abandoned, and used for dog fighting. Why contribute to that?

I agree with JenVT. Dogos, Cane Corsos, French Mastiffs and well, basically any type of mastiff can look very formidable, even though they can be total pushovers in reality. If all you care about is having a dog that visibly appears fearsome, those options as well as APBT’s, rotties, and dobermans. Just keep in mind that a dog’s appearance does not denote their personality or temperament.

Any large breed other than a bloodhound will scare people. My lab (a baby at heart) and my hound both are huge and scare everyone. The most they will do is kiss you to death.

Not everyone is put off by the same time. I know people who freak when they see labs.
Looks mean nothing at the end of the day if someone is intent on hurting you they will go right through that dog.
And if this alone is going to be your basis for a dog is not to get one because any dog I or someone else could recommend that would intimidate those easily influenced by media and word of mouth would NOT be a good breed choice for you. I don’t find APBTs or any other other "scary" breed repelling because I grew up with them.
Get a large black mutt from the shelter.

Strangely enough, a lot of folks were scared of my Shar-Pei – not when she was a puppy, but full grown – I never understood it.

first of all.. dont get a dog just becasue you want protection.. thats what alarm systems are for! and the bigger the dog, the more time you have to spend excersizing it! im so tired of people saying.. omg i just bought a big dog, but for some reason, its really hyper and its tearing my little house apart.. i dont have a fenced in yard.. so how did i get him to calm down?? hey dipshits dont get a big dog if you dont have a big yard and a big house.. do your damn research!
but i would say those big furry black dogs (idk what they are called) they are huge and they slobber everywhere! when i was little my neighbor had 2 with a tiny little fence and i had to walk past their house everyday to get home from school, and i would almost pee my pants everytime! and sometimes they would get out and wander the street and i would run so fast and slam my door shut lol.. or even a great dane! that thing could chase you down in 2 steps!

Dogs should be for companionship, not to be used as a repellent. What kind of dog would adopt your punk arse as a companion, get a goldfish Sissy
By Shannon, June 8, 2010 @ 12:01 am
my dog is a lab and she took 6 inches off a dogs neck, broke its legs and almost killed it because it growled at me… it just depends on if the dog loves you or not.

Rottweiler. No contest.
