My Pug named Sandy has fleas or has been bitten by fleas. She has the knots on her and I looked on some pages on the net and they said if a dog is allergic to flea bites, they get little knots and they turn red. One page said that were a flea bites, there will be spots that look like pepper. She also has the spots. Is there anything a vet can give her to help with the allergies? I have ordered the Frontine Spray and spray for the house if we have fleas in here. That won’t come until sometime next week. The Frontline drops don’t work, so what do I do until I get the spray to put on my dog and spray the house with?

My dog has a severe allergy to flea bites. The Vet has suggested different allergy medications to control the itching (benadryl, etc.), we tried a few topical sprays that were recommended by the Vet. Nothing works. The Vet has given her a couple of steriod injections and said it would give her some relief. It didn’t and I don’t want her to have any more steroids. The Vet doesn’t have any more suggestions other than putting her on harsh medications. Frontline only kills the fleas after they bite. It’s my poor dog that concerns me. She is scratching herself raw. Does anyone have any remedies that have worked? I’ve done vinegar rinses, tea tree oil rubs, anti-itch shampoos, the allergy pills, the topical sprays and nothing helps. Also, I was wondering if anyone had a good flea repellent that is safe to put on my dog.
We have tented the house and sprayed the yard for fleas. We live in a rural area and it’s impossible to get rid of all the fleas. I tried Frontline, Advantage and Revolution. The problem is a flea bite allergy and not food allergy.

My dog is usually very hyper and playful, however I came home the other night and she was very apathetic and didn’t jump up to greet me as she normally does. I checked out her eyes and they seemed to be watery. I took her to the vet the next day and he ran a blood test and put some drops to clear her eyes. The blood test came out normal. The vet suspected that she might have been sprayed with pepper spray or something of that kind. Her eyes seemed better yesterday, but today they have gotten worse and have some sort of white discharge. She’s been refusing to eat, but has been very thirsty, what are some could possibly be wrong with her? And what are some things I could do to make her feel better before I call the vet in the morning?
By the way she is up to date on all her shots.
OK, I took her to the vet yesterday and he didn’t find anything. I really care for my dog so I would appreciate non sarcastic answers saying I’m not doing anything to help her. Thanks…
I took her to the vet immediately as she started showing symptoms, I did not make her wait.

My beagle has been biting her paws and lower back and scratching her ears the past few months. She has done it so much her lower back is missing fur so is her tail.I took her to one vet and they said it was a flea allergy so I ripped the carpet out of my house bought her a flea repellent tag and itch halt spray as well bathing her in a oatmeal shampoo once a month. She hasnt gotten better and I havent seen a single flea on her and I checked hourly so I took her to a second vet and she said it was a food allergy so I was told to feed her turkey and rice as well as continuing the bathing itch stopping spray and brushing and she still isnt any better.Does anyone know what could be wrong with her she is 3 years and spayed.I love her and just want to see her well and with two vets telling me two things im so confused.
Her ears and skin are dry.And she does have sores on her paws and legs from biting
I dont give her treats.Ill visit those links. If it was mange would my brothers dog have it because his dog is fine.

Has your dog had skin scraping looking for mites that live in the skin? or yeast? Has she been treated for secondary infections with antibiotics? Has the primary allergy been treated with at least one round of anti-inflammatories (prednisone)? I havent had any of these done.

I got two cats in March, and a dog a few days ago.
One of my cats has always had the desire to pee on soft items that are not permanently in the living space. He has never peed on the carpeting, couch, or pillows on the couch, but he has peed on blankets on the floor and in my backpack on the floor.
This was tolerable because I could just make sure nothing out of the ordinary was on the floor.
Well, now he’s decided he’s gonna pee on the dog’s bed, which is a big cushion. Any blanket or bed I leave in the dog’s crate he will pee on. I want to keep the dog’s crate open so he can go in and out. I don’t think it’s a territory issue since he did it before the dog.
Short of the spray bottle, which I can only do if I catch him, and he doesn’t seem to give a s*** about, is there anything I can do? I don’t want the bed ruined totally.
Is there a pet repellent only for cats that won’t bug my dog?
Thanks!
I guess I should add that there are two litter boxes, two different kinds of litter, both of which he uses, and I am super clean with them (every day cleaning).
He has been to the vet and has no urinary tract infection. It is really JUST on out of place cloth items. Argh.

Our dog just left the vet, with a diagnosis of possible glaucoma. We cant be sure since he was POSSIBLY pepper sprayed friday and the vet says that the pressure reading of 25 could be high due to the ‘possible’ injury or may be glaucoma.
She says that the normal pressure test is between 11-25…
SO….she wants Gentamicin durafilm drops in his eyes 4 times a day for a week and then recheck.
I’m just wondering if anyone here (maybe a vet) thinks this sounds like the right thing to do, or should I get a second opinion? Any simuliar experiences maybe?
thanks.

We have a back patio where we keep dog food bowl and water. The toads keep going in there. Even if we put the bowls at a hirer level where the dog can get to it but not the toads they hop or get in there somehow. We don’t want to fence the patio because that will keep the dog confined and not free to roam the backyard. HELP?
When we first moved here our dog tried to eat a toad. To this day I don’t know what happened. The toad was there, I turned my back than heard my dog gasping for air and foaming at the mouth. I rushed her to the vet and apparently she didn’t eat it but may have tried to than dropped it and it hopped away quickly. Now she doesn’t go near them thank goodness she’s scared of them.

The neighbors dog is on heat at the moment and since we live on a very big farm we do not keep our dogs chained up 24/7 and our dogs normally go and play with his dog all the time, and they are very good friends. There is no barking, no causing trouble and no fighting. They just chill together and play and run around. Now that the neighbors dog is on heat and hasn’t been spade my dog – a boy lab spends the night there and hangs out there all the time.. Now the neighbor chased him away and took his dog inside. Now obviously he starts barking but instead of calling us he sprays our pore animal with pepper spray
I am really cross about this. And don’t know what to do about it. My dog is not blind, we rinsed it out wel and took him to the vet and there is not really damaged done. But I need some tips on what I should do about this crazy neighbor of mine.
My dog has lost its manhood long time ago it is the female that isn’t spade. Try put a fence around a 3000 hectar farm, I do not have that kind of money…

dog pepper spray
My GSD was attacked today at the dog park by another GSD. Luckily, the other female didn’t draw blood, but it was enough to knock my "baby" (125 lbs should really be called more than a baby…) onto her side, and slide a good couple feet. I had to pepper-spray the other dog off of mine, since the owner wasn’t doing anything (at the time), and I was afraid to reach in and grab the collar.
The owner said that her dog is known (*insert naughty words here*) to be aggressive, yet they STILL brought their dog to the dog park (*more naughty words*) !!!
I got a picture (yay for picture-cell phones!) of her, the dog and her license plate. Is there anything I can do? The vet says my "baby" is fine, thankfully.
And before anyone asks, no, they weren’t playing and got aggressive. I was playing fetch with my dog (we were the only ones there at the time), and the lady let her dog in, who then saw my dog and charged at her.
Thanks everyone. I’m putting up the fliers of the dog (only), with the description of what happened. I also called the animal shelter (which is actually right up the street from the dog park) and notified them.
Deborah G – I know that dogs sometimes play rough to show dominance, etc. But this GSD was shaking my dog’s neck. I watched it for a couple of seconds, but my baby was squealing and trying to get up. Cassie (my dog) finally did get up, and the other female went after my dog’s legs and face. I was done at that point.
The pepper spray worked – but I didn’t spray the dog in the eyes. I sprayed it in the mouth instead.
