dog repellent spray
I have a 7-year old male tabby who’s been obsessed with going out the front door of every apt I’ve lived in. He’s always been an indoor cat but will sit at the front door and meow at the top of his lungs. When he’s not meowing, he’s clawing the carpet & has dug a whole in the carpet by the front door of my last three apts. I’ve tried spraying repellent I bought at my local pet store which is supposed to deter cats and dogs from scratching & biting but it only works for a few minutes and then he’s back to work. I try to play with him as much as I can when I get home. I do have another cat but she’s 16 years old and has no interest in playing with him. I’d love to get another cat for him to play with because he LOVES to play but I live in a small apt and 3 cats seems a bit much. Any suggestions?
He is neutered and does not live in a neighborhood where I can let him out unless I want him to get run over by a car.

Do you all carry mace, pepper spray, some kind of protection or do you just leave it up to the dog? I want to begin walking my dog at night, but I get off at 9 pm. Its just us so I don’t have a man to protect
my dog is my man lol. Not too sure about the neighborhood as just moved over here, haven’t heard a Lot of crime but certainly, every neighborhood has some level of crime. My dog, 9 month APBT, is protective but I don’t want to leave it up to him to protect me. I think his looks will scare away a punk but anything I should definitely carry with me when going on this 30 minute walk?
I was thinking of mace, but don’t even know where to get it around here. Don’t believe Walgreens carries it. I don’t hear of daily crime but I know crime exists everywhere even when its not reported. I don’t want to depend on my dog because I know he’s a biter. He bit my ex, when my ex wanted to use me as a punching bag. I want to protect the breed and keep it out of limelight.

pepper spray dogs
I go for a run each morning in my neighborhood, but the last two times I’ve encountered agressive dogs. I’ve been told to carry pepper spray, but I don’t know if it will cause long term harm to the dog, or if it’s even effective. And please don’t suggest carrying a big stick— I don’t want to get that close!!!
I don’t want to hurt these animals, but I DO want to continue running without being affraid.
Billy, I mean that I don’t want to cause permanent damage. But thanks so much for your helpful input.

People abandon their dogs in my neighborhood all the time thinking that someone will notice the dog and take care of it. I found my pet as a stray. He’s a beagle-basset and he has to be walked or he will take a dump in the house. Buddy (my pet) acts like a pit bull, he is not scared of anything. My grandpa told me to walk with a stick to scare off the strays. I thought about carrying some pepper spray but I feel like that would just make the stray dog mad. I have ran in to stray dogs before. Usually the dog is three times bigger then my dog and it can sense my fear right away. I try to yell at it but I’m very meek and shy, I don’t have a loud voice so that doesn’t work. Also when I run in to a stray dog, I try to pick Buddy up so the stray dog cannot attack him but that doesn’t work either because, Buddy has a knot on his stomach; it hurts him when I pick him up. He weeps like a little baby. What can I do to protect my dog and my self?

I was just wondering because I was walking with my friend to her house and she was talking to me about how there’s this mailman who pepper sprays dogs in the neighborhood and she says they don’t bite or scratch the mailman, just bark at him like crazy,eh. So is this illegal?
Sorry I didn’t put this but yeah they are behind the fence.

Recently I heard some dog attacks in my neighborhood. I walk my dog everyday. I’m really concerned if we run into the pit pull who attacked my neighbor’s dog. Is stun gun safe to use on dogs? I don’t want to hurt them. Just want to scare them away! If it’s safe, how much power does it have to be? My neighber once cleared a whole bottle of pepper spray on a pit bull. The dog gave up in the end, but she was also bleeding. Should I get a stun gun or a taser?
I am only saying 2 of my neighbors recendly were attacked by a lose pit bull. The dog attacked his kid and his Chiuaua. He told me it was pretty bad. I’m just trying to protect my dog and myself. I am fully aware any aggressive dog can attack. I have a broken finger to prove it. I was trying to stop my 2 Shepherd mix from killing each other. I got the worse of it. The reason I’m asking for advice is to avoid future injury. I really don’t know how a stun gun will do to the animal. I just want to buy us a few seconds, so we can run away. If it’s not safe, of course, I’ll not use it on the dog. I have many many cats and dogs. I volunteer at animal rescue. Don’t accuse me of abusing animal! That’s not nice.
The first case, yes, my neighbor knew where the dog lived. Talked to the owner and contact the animal shelter. I believe it ended at a warning. The 2nd case I only heard last week. Don’t know much the details! Though I haven’t seen his 3 Chiuaua since. Hope he’s keeping them inside!

Over the last 2 yrs of owning my dog, she’s gotten attacked by various dogs around 20-30 times, mostly in my neighborhood. Some of these dogs are supposedly "contained" by hidden fences yet 2 of these dogs have run out in the middle of the street (and i cross the street to get away from these dogs) – and they attack her. I own a lab mix who is terrified of other dogs bc of what she went through w/ her previous owners b4 we adopted her.
My sister is telling me i should carry a bat around and hit any dog that tries to attack my dog – i don’t want to hit ANY dog w/ a bat and i don’t want to kick them either – would using pepper spray work and be safe to use at attacking dogs?? Or, if this continues, should i just call the cops each time a dog attacks my dog?? or would i be outta line by calling the cops?? Is there Anything else i can do to avoid getting attacked? I have to take my dog for walks – its the only way to get her energy out and plus she absolutely loves going for walks.
I’m getting soooo annoyed and upset by all these dogs that have been attacking her lately. Last nite, a young boy was walking his dog w/ his dad, the dog was pulling him towards my dog, so the boy let go and here comes this big black dog running full speed at my dog and he attacked her biting her back. I have had it w/ these stupid people not bein able to control their dogs. If you can’t control your dog, DON’T walk them.
My stupid town doesn’t have a real leash law. Dogs are supposed to be on leash but they don’t do anything about it if they’re not on leash. I’ve complained to animal control b4 and they said they can’t do anything unless the dog attacks a person – basically they could care less if these dogs viciously attack other dogs.
In the last 4 days, my dog has been attacked by 3 separate dogs – though 2 of the attacks happened last nite and both dogs were being walked by their owners. This has gotten me super upset and i feel so bad for my dog. She does stand up for herself and fight back against those dogs but still, Its NOT right and NOT fair – i don’t understand those people.

tnx so much for those who took their time reading & answering my question. actually i have two dogs (great pyrenees). both of them knocked down the wooden fence in the backyard & got out just around the neighborhood. i believed somebody called the animal control, so the officer came by & picked up both dogs. she claimed that the other dog bit or attacked her so she used the pepper spray at first but it didnt work out so she used the shovel instead to calm the dog down. both dogs are up to date with their vaccines and no history of being a dangerous or vicious dog. both dogs live with my boyfriend & he was still at work when the incident happened. since the neighborhood knows those two dogs, they told the officer where those dogs live. so the officer went to my boyfriend’s house & told his sister that she will take both dogs to the shelter. she also told her that one of the dogs bit her. my boyfriend’s sister didnt see any sign of injury on the officer though.

dog mace
My dog was abused when he was little, and he does not like strangers or strange dogs coming up to him. Since my dog is shy, I avoid places like off-leash dog parks, dog beaches, etc, because I respect owners who want to let their dogs run free. However, when I am taking my dog for walks around the neighborhood, or hikes, we are often approached by loose dogs. When owners don’t do anything to stop their dog despite my pleas, what should I do? I don’t want to mace a friendly dog, but then even friendly dogs will try to bite/chase my dog once they sense his fear. And the owners always get mad and say I have a bad dog because he doesn’t like his butt being smelled by strangers! If a dog will stay by his or her owner, I have no problem with it being off-leash, unfortunately that is rarely the case, and the more my dog gets lunged at, the less doggy-social he will be. I want to introduce him to other dogs, but he gets too scared and will either run or snap, and i don’t want anyone to get hurt….

pepper spray dogs
My dog has been attacked again, and I thought this time he’d lose an eye. I sprayed the attacking dog with a whole can of pepper spray, and it had no effect.
I have a knife, but I think stabbing a dog is more than likely illegal, and would undoubtedly upset the pieces of human filth around here that let their dogs run loose.
I am going to move out of this hellish neighborhood in a few months, but for the time being, what can I legally carry to protect my dogs?
I meant "If not, what…"
