What should I do if a neighbor threatens to mace my leashed puppy?
I took my puppy (a 10lb. Pug) out to potty in our front yard at around 11:00pm on her leash. I took her for a short walk up and down the street to get some energy out before going back into her crate. (We live in the city and their are sidewalks.) Another lady and her daughter were also walking their dog and we chatted for few minutes before continuing on our walk. As I was coming up the sidewalk a neighbor very suddenly popped out from inside her parked car startling both me and the pup. I had not seen any cars drive up in the 20 or so minutes we had been out there and was unaware of a person being out there. Her car was in her driveway perpendicular to the sidewalk and she was a good 10ft. away from us. The lady said, "get that dog away from me. I’m about to mace that thing." I said I’m sorry and that she is a nice puppy as I hurriedly began walking away. I do not plan on ever walking my puppy in front if this property and also told my husband about this so he can avoid it. I understand that not everyone likes dogs, but I see the threat of using mace on a 10lb. leashed puppy in the presence and under the control of its owner a bit over excessive and personally threatening to me. Is there anything I should or can do to protect myself and my puppy from a threatening and potentially trouble making neighbor?
My Dog was Ppered Sprayed?
Good Evening,
I was at the local dog park, where my city allows dogs to run off the leash in a fenced dog area.
It was a Sunday, I was there for 30 minutes with my Doberman, and a guy just got there and walked past me with a can in his hand, did not think much of it. He had a small "Pug" with him.
Five minutes later I see my dog barking at his little dog, I ran over to put a end to it. As I get there, my dog, a child behind me were sprayed with Mace.
I told the guy if ever sprayed my dog or any other in the dog park and I was there I would kick his ass.
He went on to say that every time he comes to the park, his dog is picked on.
I am pissed, the child’s father who got sprayed is pissed, I ended up leaving.
How would you have reacted to the situation.
Thanks,
Peter
Why doesn't Dog The Bounty Hunter use a tazer?
How practical is Skunk Spray as a defensive deterrant?
Skunks are able to defend themselves from an amazing multitude of predators including dogs, cats, ferrels, cayotes, people, and even mountain lions (it’s true! -i’m watching it on the animal channel). It’s unique spray is so potent because humans and other animals are very receptive to it’s chemical makeup -some of the same chemicals that are given off in such scents as garlic, and onions- that it can make a person vomit immediately upon contact. Also, the scent doesn’t leave as quickly as mace or pepper sprays.
My question is what do you think about using a Skunk’s spray in place of mace or pepper spray as a defensive deterrant? Do you think it would help fend off wild animals like bears and wolves, or even human attackers? Assume that the deterrant is controlled via an air-pressured canister so that it streams at its targets instead of misting/spraying everywhere. Does it seem practical, viable as a measure of protection?
Would it be acceptable for me to carry a collapsable baton and mace for self defense in the state of Maryland?
MD is very strict on weapons laws and the mace is a mace pepper gun I was wondering if I could carry them for self defensive purposes and what would happen if I was stopped and searched? I only plan to use them for self defense and when walking around my area at night cause of aggressive dogs, etc.
What about Mace?
Hi,
I am starting a dog walking business and I live in downtown Houston. I had a mace canister on my key chain a couple months ago and everytime someone saw it they said it was ridiculous. My questions are…
Should I get another one, I have since thrown mine out?
Does it look ridiculous to carry one?
Thanks.
Whats happens when a dog bites the mailman?
Ok last year around this same time, the mailman maced my pit bull in the face although my son had him on a leash. My dog and my son were both on the porch but my dog growled at the mailman and thats what caused the guy to mace my dog. The mace got on everyone including the baby and we were all burning for hours (this was unnecessary as the dog was under control). My dog is completely trained BTW.
Ok so yesterday as I opened the door @ about 4:00 (the mailman usually comes @ 5. My dog storms out the door (this NEVER EVER HAPPENS) because he saw the same mailman who maced him in the face. He ran to the mailman and bit him. The mailman took out his mace and sprayed him but as I yelled "stop" my dog immediately stopped the biting and ran on the porch. I apologized and reminded hi that my dog remembers when he maced him for no reason and he told me "yea sorry aint do it mutha F u did and Im calling the people". I understood he was angry. Ok so animal control was called and I gave them my dogs shot records etc. The mailman skin was punctured but not badly. They said my dog had to stay in the house for 10 days and that the mailman could leave and does not require any medical attention being that my dog has everything done to him medically already. My question is, what trouble am I facing?
Also. last year when I confronted the mailman about macing my dog, getting it on my son etc he was very rude and unapologetic. I didnt follow through with anything and just left it alone. My son is 13 btw.
Can I argue that this mailman maced my dog for no aparent reason and win? What so you all think? They wrote me a ticket for "dog at large" and now I have to appear in court.
The dog catcher already informed me that I would be fined but my dog will not be put down However I dont understand how the 1st time was my fault. The dog was on a leash. The city doesn’t say by whom the dog has to be leashed by as long as he is on the leash. A dog can growl, and if the dog is on the porch he didnt even have to being the mail that day so I dont think it was my fault at all. My son is not the size of a 12 year old @ all. Hes a very strong boy and is taller then I am. Also I rent my home and do not have renter insurance for my house… Now what?
