I bought house I have 2 small dogs my neighbor has 2 pitbulls?
My neighbor had the spare keys i went over to get them when i moved in. She asked me if i had dogs i said yes 2 miniture scnauzers she said that her dogs will kill my dogs and are very aggresive towards other animals. The houses are divided by a small 5 foot chain link fence but it up a hill with my house looking down. Im installing a 6 foot wood fence inside my property line and leaving the chainlink i asked her to go in on it she said she dont have the money . So this is costing me a fortune. Her dogs have killed a doberman before and ripped apart a possum . She just saying and saying my DOGS WILL kille you dogs and that she is just trying to be responsible. What can i do?????"?
I have a fat maltese dog, healthy, 3 years old. One of my best friends, who happens to be my roommate, also has a 17 year old cat who has horrible dental problems, throws up all the time. He’s bone skinny, too.
The cat doesn’t eat all his food in one go, so the dog has a chance to gobble up the cat’s food – which she does, EVERYDAY unless we follow her around and stop her all night.
I repeatedly suggest that we put the cat food in a high place where ONLY the cat could get to it, since the cat is still extremely quick, flexible and agile. "No," she says. "It’s cruel to make an old cat jump on a counter just to eat."
I suggest then that we lock the cat in a room with her food so the dog can’t get in, since he secludes himself in there anyway. "No," she says. "It’s cruel to not allow ALL the animals to roam freely about the house."
Well, I think it’s cruel to let your cat starve to death while the dog engorges itself and becomes fatter and fatter. It’s disgusting. LOL
Any other tips/tricks? Any deterrent sprays that only deter dogs that I can spray around the cat food bowl? My friend and I get along perfectly otherwise, so I’d really like to prevent any drama/move-out/animal disposal/etc.
When my roommate catches my dog eating the cat food, she spanks him (kind of violently) and yells at him. I freaked out and told her to NEVER do that again, but she thinks this will train the dog.
Hi We’re new to the neighborhood we just moved to -a couple of days ago I was walking to the local park w/my 1 1/2 Y.O. daughter (pushing the stroller too). A lady w/a pit bull (leashed) was headed towards me, about a block away. I picked my daughter up, put her in the stroller & went to the other side of the street. There was a mail carrier on the same side of the st. as the PB & when she neared it, the pit bull lunged at her, barking, & the carrier ran into the street. I’ve seen her walking the dog before and I crossed the street the other time too, I never saw it actually go after someone before until this time but it got me thinking -God forbid the dog ever gets away from the owner, who is very muscular also, but very small. The times I’ve seen her/her dog, she’s been on a cell phone w/one hand & holding the leash in the other -the dog is almost dragging her. Outside of carrying a crowbar in the stroller & pepper spray, what can I do to defend us or avoid a dog attack?! Thanks!
I really appreciate all of the answers that everyone offered, they’re all very helpful. Regarding lawsuits, though…if anyone, man or beast, attacks my daughter, I’ll do whatever I have to to stop it.
I saw a pit bull attack a small dog in my then-fiance’s front yard. It was vicious and unbelievably fast. I do worry – dogs are animals & they live by a different code than we do.
If I could find something that retracts to fit in the stroller that might work best…I can’t imagine carrying a 3 or 4′ piece of bamboo around with me, although that sounds like a pretty good solution. Thanks to all, I do appreciate it.
Someone had recommended that I use a spray to keep deer, coons, rabbits etc from my garden. It was an organic spray that used smell to detour these animals away. She said it was called Invisible Fence..when I did a search for it, I couldn’t find it. The only invisible fence I found was for dogs and other animals. Maybe she gave me the wrong name. Does anyone know what this product is called?

I have a slight fear of dogs I do not know and am wanting to walk my dogs more often but find myself not going for fear of running into other dogs. I go if I have other ppl with me but not alone with my kids and the dogs.
I really do not want pepper spray or anything like that that will injure/hurt the animals or my kids if it blows back at them but are there other options?
There are MANY dogs in my neighborhood that are not on leashes or in fenced in yards. I know a few of them are cool but I also know some others are not.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Oh and before you ask I have been walking and had a dog try to attack my daughter who was in the stroller with his idiot owners walking behind him. I had the stroller swinging in the air for him not to get her.
I have also had people open the door and let the dogs out without knowing we were there and had them charge us.
my dog just peed on the porch, and as a punishment, my dad squirted him with pepper spray. i’m worried that it’s not safe for him. if not, what are some other alternatives for punishing him. (don’t say to rub his nose in it, because if we do that, he’ll tear us limb from limb.)

*** EDIT***
we are not bad owners. we trained him but over the years, he turned into a monster. we have taken good care of him, and he has attacked multiple members of the family for stuff like just walking into the same room as him. we would have him put down, but we’re too nice, and we know no other home would be able to handle him. we have never laid a hand on him, and we treat him very well, he is just psychologically messed up. don’t you dare say that we shouldn’t own any animals. we have lots of cats and the dog, all of which we have loved and given a good home to.
Several of my neighbors have cats. These kitties have taken to digging around in my flower beds. My dog offers them no deterrent as she likes to "play" with them.
I’ve heard that pepper spray and even just sprinkled peppercorns can deter some animals. Is this a safe option? I’d rather not resort to chemicals or stand guard over my plants and asking neighbors to keep their cats under control is just silly. Are there better options?
I also have a neighbor dog that constantly escapes and knocks over the garbage cans in the alley. I was considering spraying the cans and the surrounding area with it too.
I’m not going to spray the ANIMALS! I’m going to spray the ground and plants! This isn’t the kind of pepper spray used for self-defense. Did you read my question. Obviously, I’m looking for a safe option.
The section they have been digging is full of daffodils. lol!
