pepper spray dogs
This has literally been the seventh time I’ve been on a walk and a dog (mostly pit bulls) has ran out of his yard in order to chase me and my dogs. So it’s got to a point where I think I’m going to start taking a BB gun with me for protection. Someone suggested pepper spray but I think there would be a chance to spraying my dog.
I’ve already tried to police, and they just simply said unless the dog has bit someone then they won’t deal with it. And by the time animal control is on the scene (a day later) the dog is secured. So using a BB gun is what I came up with; I’m not going to let myself get bit because someone is being irresponsible. Tell me what you think about this…
Forget cruelty! It’s cruel to have my hand mangled or my throat rip out. Since when did animals preservation take precedence over a humans.
For the people who say no but buy "defensive spray" your talking out both sides of your a$$. It’s bad to use a BB gun to shoot little bbs but it’s okay to spray hot pepper sh!t in its eyes. You’re such a moron, its pathetic.

pepper spray dogs
I go for a run each morning in my neighborhood, but the last two times I’ve encountered agressive dogs. I’ve been told to carry pepper spray, but I don’t know if it will cause long term harm to the dog, or if it’s even effective. And please don’t suggest carrying a big stick— I don’t want to get that close!!!
I don’t want to hurt these animals, but I DO want to continue running without being affraid.
Billy, I mean that I don’t want to cause permanent damage. But thanks so much for your helpful input.

I am not afraid of most dogs but i do get very weary when i see loose dogs. For some reason it seems like the people in my area have no regard for keeping their animals under control. Pit bullss and other large dogs are seen roaming freely in the streets at all hours. I called animal control and because the dogs have collars and are owned they will do nothing. I’m afraid ill get hurt minding my business because idiots choose not to keep their animals on their property.
What should i do if one of these ( or 2 as i see them wandering in groups) chooses to approach me?
Is mace/pepper spray bad to use on dogs? will it attack me?
whats the best way to avoid getting hurt by these loose wandering large dogs.
Thanks for your input

My hubby is a mailman and he has to worry about stupid little crap dogs attacking him, is there anything he can do to avoid being attaked? He has pepper spray but people freak on him if he threatens to do anything to their precious monsters. I know with other animals if you seem big and show your teeth they will back off. Any ideas?

I recently moved to the country area and my garbage can has no lid (County Owned Garbage Can). I ordered a new garbage can, but havent gotten it yet. We have had a problem with something getting into our garbage. I say something because we do have deer in our backyard all the time (I just dont know if they eat garbage or not). So after picking up nasty garbage out of the grass three times, I bought some spray that is suppose to keep dogs and cats away (You have to spray every day and its mostly used to train your own pets, not strays). I also got some twist-tied "pepper-looking" things that you hang up to help keep animals away. It worked for a few days. But the day the garbage man came, the garbage was all over the ground again. Any other ideas, except shooting the animals?

while walking my dog on a leash, a woman walking her dog (also on a leash, one of those reel things) approached from a distance. I could see her dog was similar size to mine, and was very excited and running in my direction. She was letting the reel unravel so the dog could run. I put my dog in back of me because we couldn’t turn and walk away – no time, so I stood there and held out my hand and said "No! Go Away!" It dodged by me and attacked my dog, wrapping me up in it’s flimsy, string-like leash. The woman was a long ways away, still holding the leash reel, and doing nothing – not even saying anything – I had to dance out of the twisted leashes and dodge the snarling, biting dogs while trying to figure out how to separate them. While doing that, my dog jumped and twisted and the collar with the leash attached was pulled off because I was trying to pull him back from the other dog. As the dogs moved away from me, I grabbed my dog’s tail and told him "NO!" and hauled him backwards, he let go of the other dog and I quickly put his collar back on. The other dog, defeated, moved back to the owner – who said not a word, but walked away. I was so angry I could have slapped her!!! Why the hell would someone just let thier dog attack another dog like that? For all I knew, he was coming to attack me, he was running right at me. I am now carrying pepper spray and if I see her again, I’m planning on spraying her dog, and if she lets him loose on me like that again she’s getting a dose too!! Thoughts, suggestions?
I was so concerned about my dog and shook up by the whole thing I just wanted to get away from them as soon as I possibly could. My dog was not hurt that I could see, both dogs are lab mix. My dog does tend to be a bit dominating, but I know that and I always make way for oncoming people and animals, or just walk him in another direction.

dog pepper spray
I was at the dog park today and someones poodle puppy (6-9 months old) jumped on me. It is a super sweet dog, very, very, nice. The second time it tried, I lifted my knee and, of course, the dog landed on it. It stopped. A couple of people got really upset with me, and accused me of kicking it. They even lied and said they SAW me kick it. This was an absolute LIE!
Here is the deal……if you don’t train your dog, I WILL. I will not be the recipient of smeared dog park mud (i.e. feces, urine, and dirt). If your dog jumps on people, that makes YOU the rude person, NOT ME! People often ask me why my dog is so well behaved (and clearly NOT abused). Maybe it’s because I trained him. My dog has been attacked many times before. When this happens, I attack the attacker, no ifs ands or buts!
Either you be alpha with your dog, or I WILL. Pepper spray will knock the living crap out of a dog. I am tired of paying vet bills!
Is your dog trained, or are you just another jerk?
If another Akita (or any other agressive breed) attacks my dog again, it will be peppersprayed. I will not pepperspray a dog for jumping on me. Dog parks are an excellent place to train your dog. Do you UNtrain your dog at the dogpark? That will only confuse them, and make training more difficult. Be responsible please!
Pepper spray is effective on owners as well.
BTW Any reasonable person would have seen that I didn’t abuse the dog.
I typically like animals more than people.

I love animals, so I am not going to mace a dog, or shoot a dog (i dont even carry a gun) Can somebody turn me onto a device or a gadget that has a proven track record of repelling dogs. I am not going to be able to avoid the confrontation with dogs, (because of asshole irresponsible pet owners who dont make car payments either,) So I am hoping that there is a way to do it with out the use of force, because when I am forced to hurt a dog, their owner will have to deal with ONE PISSED OFF BAD ASS INDIVIDUAL!! And I dont want that, I am a nice repo man, your friendly neighborhood repo man!! Thanks in advance for any help on this!

if another dog were to attack your dog(s) while out for a walk? Or do you or would you take something with you for protection?
I rarely take my two pups on walks in public places where other dogs might approach them. Lately I’ve been thinking it might be a good idea — mainly for socialization purposes and for exercise (for all of us). But honestly, it scares me to do so for two reasons:
1. What if they were attacked? What would/should I do? AND
2. Aren’t they at risk for dog diseases/worms/bordatella, etc. out there where other dogs poop, eand so forth?
Of course they have had their shots, but in this low income state where I live, I KNOW not everyone can afford proper health care for their pets. Furthermore, I have no confidence that these unvaccinated pets would be kept away from other animals — like at a dog park. Is it foolish to risk taking them out like that?
