We have a beagle chihuahua mutt that we got from animal control about three years ago. She rarely gets out the front door–maybe once a year. Although I went to training classes with her, she was clearly one of the more difficult dogs, especially because she wanted to search for all the training goodies rather than listen to me or the instructor.

When she has escaped, which happened today, she’s never bitten anyone or anything but she gets aggressive to a group of toy poodles being walked by an older man. We could use advice on how to try to ensure that she just doesn’t get out. Although we are careful to try to stop her, I’m sure it will happen at some point again.

Any suggestions on the best way for her to learn not to go out the front door? The older man said that if our dog gets out, he will spray her with mace. I said that would be understandable and that I wouldn’t blame him. I’m trying to find a way to avoid it, but when our dog spots certain dogs, she’s going to try to get outside and in their faces.

She doesn’t have problems with all dogs, but it’s too unpredictable to know which ones she’ll like and which ones she won’t. Her best friend is a lab across the street that she plays with regularly.

My 5 year old was playing in the sprinkler in the back yard. Then 2 big wandering dogs not on leashes were on my yard barking at my son. I went outside when I saw trouble. I grabbed the pepper spray. I went outside. The dogs barked at me. I sprayed pepper spray at the one dog. The other ran off. I called animal control, no answer, left message. They called me back 2 hours later gave me another number that was wrong. I called Sumner police no emergency line when the 2 dogs came back. The Sumner police dispatcher was absolutely refusing to help me. She told me there was nothing I could do to the dogs even on my property and threatening us. That I would be liable. She was very mean and rude. She refused any assistance and hung up on me!!!
We could have been mauled by the dogs and police here absolutely would refuse assistance!!
Could I file a small claim against the pd for refusing to help me when in imminent danger?

Ok, so she is not really vicious, but I had to get your attention. She is so smart and lovable, but when the UPS guy pulls up to the gate, she puts her head through the fence and barks like mad, like she is gonna kill the guy. She puts her paws through the fence and stuff too. But then when he leaves she is fine. The animal control people stoped buy one day for some reason which i have no idea, and the lady sprayed her with pepper spray to get her to stop. She said if she does that again she will shoot her in the head! What do I do?! PLEASE HELP! I REALLY DON’T WANT OUR PUP TO GET KILLED CAUSE SHE DOESN’T LIKE STRANGERS! WHAT DO I DO!?!

I know, right! she is behind the fence, she could easily get through if she really wanted to kill the lady! But what can I do? We are gone at school all day and its not fair for her to be inside in a kennel all day!

I live in a pretty small town and people pretty much fail at taking care of their dogs. Most of them just leave their dogs on their front porch or yard. Whenever I walk by with my dogs, they come charging at me snarling with their hackles up. Usually if I point to where they came from and say "GO HOME!" they will back off, but today was different. A huge dog I have never seen before came running from a house snarling and trying to nip at my dog. I told him to go home and he started snarling at me. I didn’t know what to do so I backed off and went the other way.
I have called animal control so many times and they never show up. They did one time but by the time they got there the owner had already put the dog back in their house so the AC officers didn’t do anything about it.
This is getting so annoying. It’d be nice to be able to walk my dog without having vicious strays come running up to me every time I turn a corner.
My parents won’t let me carry pepper spray or any type of weapon. They tell me to avoid the dogs as best I can. I do try to avoid them and I try to stay away from the streets full of strays, but it seems like they’re everywhere -_-
I’m just worried one day they’ll attack either me or my dogs. Then what?
I don’t know what to do at this point. Keep calling animal control? Carry a knife even tho my parents said no? Stop walking my dog? lol.

This has literally been the seventh time I’ve been on a walk and a dog (mostly pit bulls) has ran out of his yard in order to chase me and my dogs. So it’s got to a point where I think I’m going to start taking a BB gun with me for protection. Someone suggested pepper spray but I think there would be a chance to spraying my dog.
I’ve already tried to police, and they just simply said unless the dog has bit someone then they won’t deal with it. And by the time animal control is on the scene (a day later) the dog is secured. So using a BB gun is what I came up with; I’m not going to let myself get bit because someone is being irresponsible. Tell me what you think about this…
Forget cruelty! It’s cruel to have my hand mangled or my throat rip out. Since when did animals preservation take precedence over a humans.
For the people who say no but buy "defensive spray" your talking out both sides of your a$$. It’s bad to use a BB gun to shoot little bbs but it’s okay to spray hot pepper sh!t in its eyes. You’re such a moron, its pathetic.

Hey Everyone,

I am stuck at a crossroad. I don’t know what to do about my neighbors dog. Every morning when I go jogging his dogs chase me. They haven’t tried anything because I always bring my German Shepherd with me, and he is easily twice as big as these dogs. There are about four of them, and when I run they try to circle barking at me and my dog. I don’t think they will do anything when my dog is with me, but I am worried about what they might do if he is not there. I am also worried that they might get more confident and attack. I don’t want to get bit, and I don’t want my dog to kill their dogs.

I thought about calling animal control on them, but they are rednecks and they might do something to me if they found out. Also, the road I live on is on the outskirts of town and everyone that lives here has lived there for awhile, and I am afraid that the word would spread if someone found out I was the one who called. I hate these dang, and I am thinking about pepper spraying the crap out of them the next time they bother me. Would that keep them away or entice them?
I haven’t talked to the neighbors yet. I kinda don’t want to. Their yard is huge and it looks like a junk yard. Seriously my wife and I call it junk yard paradise. Luckily it is past my house and doesn’t affect my property value.

Also, I am worried if I call animal control and they go down there they will find out it is me, and slice my tires, kill my dog, bust out my windows. Who knows rednecks are retarded, and don’t care about anyone other than themselves.

Maybe I should kidnap these dogs, and drop them off at the animal shelter. Atleast they would have the chance to be with a family who cares about them.

I have tried the Coleus Canina (piss off plant, cat be gone plant) plant, powdered lemon peel and orange peel (heard they don’t like citrus). Wiped all outdoor furniture with lemon ammonia. Spilled some vinegar off to the side of my patio. NOTHING IS WORKING!!!!
I dont want to hurt the stray cats and dont want any electronic or water spray recommendations. I have nothing against cats but there are 10-12 stray cats that roam and poop all over my property and they might be sick.
Animal control completely unhelpful and told me to set my own traps which would go over great with my HOA!

I have a dog and he pees all over the area. That they come around.

These cats are crazy nothing works!!!! They run from my dog but are back whenever he isn’t around even if he pees all over the area. I live in a condo so I can’t leave my dog out there or use any spray devices due to the HOA rules. I need something, ANYTHING!!!

Completely stuck here please help!!! I would even some strange witches brew at this point.

Plese click on this site to sign our petition. A police officer in Redding Ca. pepper sprayed, then tazered, then shot, then run over a loose pittbull, then shot again until he finally after alot of suffering died. The owner lived where the dog was loose and animal control was also on the scene but the police I guess found it necessary to use this unnecessary force. Please we need more signatures to ensure this does NOT happen again.

My Chinese neighbor has 3 large Labrador dogs. In the 4 years that he has had them, not ONCE has he taken them for a walk. I found a bottle of pepper spray that had fallen off the wall that divides our house and into my yard. The poor dogs, not having contact with the outside world, are very aggressive, barking and trying to jump over the fence (without success though) every time someone passes by. I always hear him yelling commands at the dogs in Chinese. I don’t think he is involved in dog fighting because no one comes to his house and his grandma lives with him.

Now, the problem, every time the sound of a siren is audible form the streets, on of the dogs starts howling non-stop. It is a very loud howl and always wakes me up at night.

Here is my dilemma, I don’t want to complain because I don’t want the guy to muzzle the dog. I don’t want the dogs to suffer… At the same time I’m getting pissed at the noise. Do you think I have enough evidence to have Animal Control come and take the dogs? A few years earlier I called animal control regarding ANOTHER Chinese neighbor who hit his Labrador with a beer bottle hit my cat with a large stick. They came and gave him a warning… So if they give a guy who hits his dog and another person’s cat a warning… is it worth calling about this other guy?

The noise is an issue.

Ok last year around this same time, the mailman maced my pit bull in the face although my son had him on a leash. My dog and my son were both on the porch but my dog growled at the mailman and thats what caused the guy to mace my dog. The mace got on everyone including the baby and we were all burning for hours (this was unnecessary as the dog was under control). My dog is completely trained BTW.

Ok so yesterday as I opened the door @ about 4:00 (the mailman usually comes @ 5. My dog storms out the door (this NEVER EVER HAPPENS) because he saw the same mailman who maced him in the face. He ran to the mailman and bit him. The mailman took out his mace and sprayed him but as I yelled "stop" my dog immediately stopped the biting and ran on the porch. I apologized and reminded hi that my dog remembers when he maced him for no reason and he told me "yea sorry aint do it mutha F u did and Im calling the people". I understood he was angry. Ok so animal control was called and I gave them my dogs shot records etc. The mailman skin was punctured but not badly. They said my dog had to stay in the house for 10 days and that the mailman could leave and does not require any medical attention being that my dog has everything done to him medically already. My question is, what trouble am I facing?
Also. last year when I confronted the mailman about macing my dog, getting it on my son etc he was very rude and unapologetic. I didnt follow through with anything and just left it alone. My son is 13 btw.

Can I argue that this mailman maced my dog for no aparent reason and win? What so you all think? They wrote me a ticket for "dog at large" and now I have to appear in court.
The dog catcher already informed me that I would be fined but my dog will not be put down However I dont understand how the 1st time was my fault. The dog was on a leash. The city doesn’t say by whom the dog has to be leashed by as long as he is on the leash. A dog can growl, and if the dog is on the porch he didnt even have to being the mail that day so I dont think it was my fault at all. My son is not the size of a 12 year old @ all. Hes a very strong boy and is taller then I am. Also I rent my home and do not have renter insurance for my house… Now what?
