pepper spray dogs
So I was using an air horn to scare off stray dogs. But now I have a pup that can hear so I don’t use it as I dont want him to panic. I have pepper spray but if the wind isn’t blowing in your favor…can’t use it. IL has made a lot of things (tazers) illegal to carry.
The other day, I was walking my sheltie and jrt pup. This large breed dog came out of no where, I assume after the puppy (who darted between my legs and got tangled up in his haste to escape), and nailed my sheltie. Had her around the throat, pinned on the ground. That’s all this dog did. Meanwhile, puppy is flipping shit trying to get out of his collar (thanks for the tip btw, he was unable to get out thankfully!).
Someone (not sure if it was the owner of the offending dog) came over and started to hit the dog that had mine. Everytime they punched the dog it would shake mine. Finally after screaming STOP the person backed off. I handed them the puppy’s leash and grabbed the offending dog by the back legs. Holly was able to scramble away. We went home. My dog is fine. I doubt she even remembers it lol her fluffiness saves her.
I have called AC so many times about these dogs. Even going as far as to hold on to the friendlier ones until AC arrives to pick them up. They are owned by people in the area. If no damage is done, can they still get into legal trouble? Granted my dog didn’t suffer any injuries but I shouldn’t have to fear for our safety just to go on a walk!
I’m at a dead end. I only have one route to take. Even once I get off my street, regardless of which way I take there’s loose dogs. Usually I can’t get off my street without a loose dog approaching us.
Oh and if anyone knows why this dog just held mine like that? I don’t understand. Holly wasn’t moving though. She was looking up at me, whale eye, licking her lips but she wasn’t trying to get away or fight back. Maybe that’s why this dog didn’t really hurt her?

Ok, I live in a neighborhood where a few of my neighbors own dangerous dogs – amongst them, a german shepard. They walk the dogs without leash nor muzzle, letting them walk around, loose. I have a small dog myself, who has been attacked by these dogs in more than one occasion. The situation is getting to a breaking point. I`m trying to avoid calling the police, so i want to know if someone knows some stuff than can prevent an attack. My idea is to walk my dog with a hairspray. Pepper spray is forbidden in my country, so I´m hoping hairspray can have the same effect – does anyone know if it can?
Any suggestions?
I thought I should add this: I`m trying to avoid calling the police for two reasons. 1) Police is highly inefficient in my country, so a formal complaint will have little input on the situation, and 2) These people not that civilized, so a formal complaint can have the reverse effect of them taking revenge on me. I thought I should clear this up.

okay so my mail man countless of times does NOT deliver our mail. and no its not cause we dont have mail that day…its cause he hears our dogs barking, that are inside our house, no way of them getting out, and walks partially up our lawn but then hears the dogs, has our mail in his hand but then turns and doesnt even deliver our mail. then puts our mail back into his freaking sack thingy and then gets our a different mail stack and delivers our neighbors mail. PLUS!!!! he’s tried to pepper spray our dogs through the security gate we have!!!!! not acceptable!
i’m waiting for a package that should have been delivered yesterday. but instead of the package, i got a note in my mail box saying that i have to go to the post office to pick it up instead. OR in smaaalllll writing i could go online and request to have it redelivered. so i did that yesterday and it should have came today. but it didnt. i even filled out that little piece of paper that was left in my mail box, and i signed it and everything. and i watched the mail man take it. if he does NOT deliver my package tomorrow….i WILL report him! i mean he’s a freakin mail man! dont get the job if your a dog hater + dont want to deliver people’s mail when thats your job!!!!!! and he’s a shady person! he reported me saying i verbally abused him when i did not! and he’s referring to an incident that happend when i was 10 years old. and im 19 now! and i wouldnt have gotten an attitude if he hadnt skipped our house 3 days in a row and walk away from me really fast acting like he didnt even see me! UGH im sooo fed up.
how do i report this stupid jackass!!!!???????
thanks
sorry i have no idea what subject this would be under…
the dog is inside my house! the mail box where he sometimes delivers our mail, is outside. its not even near the door. he cannot get bit, nor can my dog open the gate. there for…my mail man is a huge douche bag…

I have a neighbour who complains that I am breaking the law by letting the dog poop on his lawn, even if I pick it up. I have never, ever, let my dog poo anywhere and not pick it up.
He threatened to kill my dog, to put poison in his grass, to pepper spray my dog and to put a camera facing my yard to make sure I’m not going to his yard. He spies on us constantly and continuously yells at our siblings. Other dogs in the neighbourhood poos on his grass, and leaves it there. Then he’ll come out and blame us. I was just wondering if something were to happen, would it be me that’s right or him? For instance, would the law be on my side or his?
Thanks in advance.
To clarify:
This is the front yard I’m talking about. It’s completely not fenced in (it’s just a wide piece of grass).
I have stayed off his lawn. But it doesn’t stop his spying/cameras and so on.
And.. the dog is always leashed. It’s just that since the property lines aren’t defined (no fences), sometimes she’ll get past and poop before I even have time to pull her over.

Skunks are able to defend themselves from an amazing multitude of predators including dogs, cats, ferrels, cayotes, people, and even mountain lions (it’s true! -i’m watching it on the animal channel). It’s unique spray is so potent because humans and other animals are very receptive to it’s chemical makeup -some of the same chemicals that are given off in such scents as garlic, and onions- that it can make a person vomit immediately upon contact. Also, the scent doesn’t leave as quickly as mace or pepper sprays.
My question is what do you think about using a Skunk’s spray in place of mace or pepper spray as a defensive deterrant? Do you think it would help fend off wild animals like bears and wolves, or even human attackers? Assume that the deterrant is controlled via an air-pressured canister so that it streams at its targets instead of misting/spraying everywhere. Does it seem practical, viable as a measure of protection?

pepper spray dogs
I have tried everything in getting my dogs to quit fighting. NOTHING works! Someone told me to try pepper spray just as a back up but im hoping there might be something else i can use. Water wont work and I have done the Alpha bit with both dogs. Sat on them, held them down, etc. I have watch the dog whisper and nothing. My Great Dane is a passive dog. He would rather watch the grass grow than fight but when my Akita growls he goes on the defensive (protective) but my Akita is a different story. Nothing you do with him changes the out come of a dominance game. I’m at my last thread. My husband even went and lifted both Dane and Akita at the same time by the necks and the Dane went still, tail between the legs and licked my husbands hand while bleeding, but my Akita waited until my husband lowered him back to the ground and he went at it again. My Dane cant take this much longer.
Sorry about the mis-communication about the blood. My Dane got a bite on the lip…hence the blood. I got the Akita as a puppy ( 3 1/2 months) but got the Dane just a month ago. My Akita has been socialized and raised with an older lab mix all his life. Same with the Dane. The fighting has never progressed to a killing stage but I believe my Dane is just holding my Akita down. Behind the neck. Not a killing hold under the neck or thrashing. They can be walked together…they do great. But once you stop and the Akita makes a noise or jumps my Dane goes on the defensive and it’s my Akita who starts it. I have been told it could be a size problem. My Akita is a runt but my Dane is not. And I have smacked my Akita for the growling but doesn’t help or stop. He gets more and more agitated (breathing heavier and faster) the longer he is made to sit still or if my Dane is close and he cant see him.

I have been walking my 3 dogs and normally when I walk I am alone. I also have my 2 kids and a neighbor kid with me when we go. I am scared I am going to run into a loose dog or someone will let their dog out as I am passing (has happened) so I stay on my road and walk it 3 or so times but I would like to branch out so what if anything do u bring with you when you walk. I thought of buying the spray made for dogs but can i be sued for vet bills if I use it on a dog going after one of my dogs or kids.
Also, if it gets into my dogs or kids eyes in the process is it dangerous or will it wear off.
Thanks and the reason I am paranoid is when my daughter was a baby a dog was circling us growling trying to get at my daughter. Thankfully the owners were not that far behind.
There are tons of people around me that do not have fences that let the dogs out to pee
I like the foghorn idea.. looking for that now

My beautiful obedient and friendly golden retriever and I were just attacked in the park by a pit bull. My dog is injured, I’m injured. The
punks and their dog ran away with the dog. I know, I know I’m buying some pepper spray.
Canada has successfully outlawed pit bulls. They don’t have the problem anymore. What is the purpose of this bread of dog? It’s only purpose in its genetic predisposition is to attack and kill other dogs. That’s the answer to my rhetorical question. The pit bull cannot be trained to NOT attack. This is the thesis/weight behind the logic of my argument. Thanks for your thoughts.
Don’t start calling me names. Me and my dog aren’t in the mood right now. I may have to read more. But the fact is that, this was a pitbull, I looked the dog up and identified the bread. Maybe dog bans are not the solution. The dogs name "pit bull" promote ignorance for the person being bitten and to people in general. I don’t claim to be any brainiac, I’m just asking a question. And all the answers are very helpful in making my mind up in regard to a answer. Thank you.
My dog was on a leash. The pit was on a leash but struggled and got loose, the collar was too loose on the other dog. The other dog bum rushed me and my dog.
Please don’t have this question deleted.
I’d like the data so I can study and come to an educated conclusion to the matter.
My apologies, I should not have asked this question without doing more research. I can see that there a a few schools of thought in regard to BSL.
Petey was a pit bull from the little rascals? lol……….I suppose it’s not good to ask such a question while under emotional duress. I will let the community pick the best answer, I’m afraid I am to biased to pick a best answer.

pepper spray dogs
Theres a mountain bike/hiking trail near my house, and today (for the first time in 5 years of going there) there was a coyote that was trying to hop a fence to get onto the path to get to my dogs! My dogs were trying to play with it, but, after talking to a few hikers here, it turns out theres been many dogs dying here due to these coyotes attacking!!
Now, I don’t dare to take the dogs back to this place now, but my mother insists on taking them back!
My question is: since there is no stopping my mother, what can I do to make it more safe for my dogs? I dont think theres a single think i can do except keep my mother away from the dogs, but shes the owner so theres no stopping her.
Would pepper spray help at all??
Thank you!
I have two golden doodles, around 40 pounds each – both over friendly, and the coyote was … much bigger? I bad guess: 90 pounds.
–also, I live in Canada. These coyotes apparently have been attacking for years (one hiker has lost 2 dogs to them), arnt afraid of light, shouting, or humans.
–this coyote today stalked my 2 dogs, and my friend and I for over 20 minutes along this fence, untill the path curved away from the fence.
