I mean, like if a stray dog tries to attack you, I thought they would freak out & focus on the burning, rather than getting angrier & attacking you more. But I read on WikiHow that pepper spraying a dog doesn’t make them back off. They said that it makes the dog more aggressive & attack you more.

I am so scared & worried b/c I almost got attacked 4 times this yr. by stray dogs. I have a dog phobia ever since I was attacked by one 7 yrs. ago. I’m still traumatized. & it has affected my life where I’m afraid to leave the house. EXACTLY 1 yr. ago, Aug. 9 of last yr., a dog ran ALL the way across the street, to try to attack me, but he got hit by a car & ran the other way. So, even though it was sad that he got hit, my life was saved. Well, I was no longer in danger of being attacked. Who knows if the dog had rabies or some other disease.

So, I wanna know the truth. Is pepper spray effective? If not, then I wasted my $$, buying some.

Mailmen use this too. I like to take walks in my neighborhood but often encounter a loose dog and usually big ones like Dobermans, Rotwrilers, and Pitbulls. I have used the spray and it has worked however I worry about running out. It’s awful that I have to resort to this but so many people here like leaving thier pets off leash. I think they do it to protect thier property.
There are some good answers so far. I have a couple of answers I’m considering to pick but I’ll wait till the last day before I vote. The question may sound silly to some but I assure you there are some folks out there who think it’s bad. Case and point – I had a big biker-type neighbor who yelled at me for using it on his unleashed dog that was charging me. The idiot was standing right next to his dog when it happened. I’ts the owners, not the dogs I have a problem with. After I was bit by a pit I started to carry the pepper spray and was afraid to use it at first, thinking what if it don’t work or I miss his head and they bite me for trying. I’ll have to say thiough it has worked on some big ones like the Rot that is always out. I don’t have to spray him anymore — just point the bottle at him.
I want to make clear a few things. I don’t want you to get the wrong impression of me. The only time I had used the spray was maybe 3 times and these dogs were big and showing me that they were indeed agressive and off their leash or not fenced in. And in response to one of the answers, I have every right legally to defend myself with pepper spray even if the dog was on his property. If the dog is charging you and he’s not restrained you don’t have time to see if he will stop before he leaves the property. They are not likely to stop anyway and how would you know who’s dog it is if its not fenced in?

my question is: how effective is a dog pepper spray in case of a pitbull attack? i’m asking because i like to jog, but i fear pitbulls whose owners can’t control. i’ve seen it many times.

I don’t want to kill them, just keep them OUT of my back yard. It’s because of my dogs. My dogs can bite them and can get sick because of this.

My current jacket is made of a black fleece type fabric and is ALWAYS COVERED in dog fur. I have an adult Shepard mix.

I saw some coats made of the material that umbrellas are made of. But I was wondering if these would male static cling?

Advice on a good coat for a pet owner to wear without attracting too much hair?

My regular clothes don’t attract as much hair as my coat does in one day. It must be the fabric.

Any suggestions?

My American bulldog is not good with other dogs. We learned this out quickly after we adopted her. Once we took her to the dog park and she (quite viciously) attacked another dog, they did not press charges though. I know she should get her to a professional trainer but that is just not an option due to expenses. Some dogs are running lose in our neighborhood when we take our dog for a walk. Would it be okay if maised or pepper sprayed their dog, sense ours is on a leash?

How to repel dogs????

Soo . . . yeah, one of our less known neighbors (no one knows him) owns a chocolat lab and we think he’s letting his dog sh*t on our front garden. We have a fenced bit, but there is some grassy bit on which it poops, and it’s always at random times, so how do we repel it or catch them? Its really peeing me off now!

My dog Krissie (shih-tzu & maltese mix) is allergic to fleas. She scratches so much to the point that she has scabs and sometimes little tiny balls of hair coming out. I know she’s frustrated and I have tried so many things with no luck. Frontline, Advantage and Comfortis does not work anymore as fleas come back within a matter of days. I took her to a holistic vet several times and she’s been on antihistamines. She’s been flea dipped and I bathe her once a week. I also spray natural bug & flea repellent in addition to anti-itch sprays. These are all natural products as I don’t believe in poisoning my dog with harsher chemicals. None of the above methods have worked and my poor baby is still itching. Does anyone have any similar issues and have resolved this problem? Any suggestions on what to do?

By the way, her diet consists of homecooked food (organic chicken, brown rice, kale & carrots)….with added vitamins. I have also taken out brown rice and chicken at one point to see if she was allergic to them…and turns out that’s not the case either. Any suggestions?

I have read several articles today about ways to get rid of fleas. Many of them say to use white vinegar in a bowl on the floor and it will attract the fleas and drown them. And then many other articles say to use apple cider vinegar on your dog to kill and repel fleas. With so much information on the web it’s hard to know what is correct. Help please!

So heres the deal. i have the look- long blonde hair, jean jacket, sunglasses, snakeskin pants, alligator boots and my obese family as my crew. I want to be a bounty hunter as a profession and I already have a net gun and mace so im prepared. should i just start runing around town and catching people or what? My dog & two cats have an AWFUL flea problem right now. We’ve treated them and they seem to be doing better, but the fleas have moved on…to US. My parents are making preparations to bomb/fog the house, and we have carpet spray we’ve been using, but the fleas keep biting. especially in our sleep. I’ve tried bug spray but I don’t see much difference. Is there any HUMAN flea repellent I could use in the meantime until we can fully treat our house?
